Gardening is how I relax....

Cooking, reading, sewing, crafting, a little shopping....  I have many ways I love to relax, and do a little thinking over something.
I am reminded of something my brother told me a couple of years ago when I was going through a sad time.  He said that he was visiting with a sweet older lady in Humnoke, Arkansas near our old High School one day, and she told him that she planted all her troubles in her garden, and that is why it was so pretty.  Well, her flower were georgeous and abundant!  I love to do likewise, and plant my troubles in my garden.  I also like to plant happiness there, too.  It is hard to not be happy when planting sunflowers, or tomatoes :)

The Sugar Snap peas are doing very well this year!  They are so good covered with dew and eaten fresh straight from the garden - seconds after being picked!  (I have been fortunate and have not had to use any pest control on my peas).

It is hard to have any peas to bring in the house to share...but I managed to pick a few for dinner tonight.  They are delicious just barely cooked with a tad of butter and sea salt!

The potatoes that I planted on February 9th are up, and the tomatoes are doing well.  I had to replant some radishes yesterday since a little critter helped himself to some radish micro-greens.  The tomato on the left in the picture has 2 little tiny tomatoes already on it!

Carolina Jasmine is blooming like crazy along the road ways and pathways of our community.  It smells so delicious!  I wish I could find a perfume that smells exactaly like it!  You know spring is coming when the Carolina Jasmine is blooming!

I hope everyone has a lovely day where ever you are and relax a little by gardening, or at least looking at pictures of gardening on Pinterest (oh my! aren't some of the pictures on Pinterest georgeous and inspiring)!

Fridays in the Garden, The Beginning!

For years I have loved following my favorite blogs, and have wanted to join in the fun.  So, today, I am beginning!  I'm so excited!

I am going to share a little of my life and joys with whoever happens by my little piece of cyberspace.  I love to garden, and will begin here, in my real garden.

We need to start gardening early in South Texas so that the plants have time to grow and set blooms before the evenings are too warm.  This is especially true for tomatoes.  Last weekend my husband and I got a load of good dirt and leaf mold compost to top off my garden beds and for other places in the yard that needed a bit of dirt.

The big pile of dirt...

I planted potatoes, onion sets, a couple of tomatoes, carrot seeds, and radish seeds.

My garden so far this 2013.  I have sugar snap peas, cabbage, and Swiss chard that we are currently enjoying (planted last November).

I really enjoy the peace of gardening.  I enjoy raising a little of our food in the yard of our urban home.  I grew up on a farm in Arkansas where we had a large garden.  The peace escaped me then, but feels fabulous now!

I did it!  My first post.  I can't wait to think of something new to share soon.  Please stop by and visit with me again soon. ~ Joeby
